TURTLE LAKE SHORELAND: Site Portfolio

Chippewa National Forest

The Turtle Lake Shoreland site is located on private land within the Chippewa National Forest. Designated as a federal reserve in 1902, the Chippewa National Forest is managed by the US Forest Service and open to the public for recreational activities such as camping, fishing, hunting, ATV/OHV and horseback riding. Permits are also still issued for logging activities within the park. Much of the birch, aspen and pine forests were completely logged between the 1890s and 1920s, but patches of old growth, such as the “Lost Forty” still remain.
